🥳🗓🤸🏽♀️ Day 1️⃣7️⃣ of #AYearOfYoga2019
with @cyogalife ➡️ Side #Lotus #armbalance
This awesome #armbalance combines a lot of elements in just one pose: it’s a deep twist, great #hipopener
and important strengthener... It took me a few years to be able to land #lotus on one side so, give it time if it hasn’t happened yet. For most people, the hardest part is the twist, second hardest, the head lift. Lotus has to be real easy at this point so, if it’s not, or if any of the difficulties I just mentioned prevent you from doing the pose, my suggestion is to undo the leg fold and master going from Tripod into Side Crow (or a ‘Half Lotus + Half Side Crow’ version), twist deeply, then pick the head up, hold for a few breaths, drop the crown again and lift legs back to vertical. The easier this becomes, the faster Parsva Kukkuta will come. If you can also do it a few times in a row without coming down (Tripod to Side Crow, back to Tripod then Side Crow on the arm, back to Tripod and so on...), you’ll build tremendous stamina, very necessary, especially to pick the head up once Lotus is resting on the opposite arm. By all means, face a wall if you need to or use a block/blanket under the crown (the thicker, the easier to lift up but also harder to balance in regular Tripod, watch out!). Place another blanket behind the wrist you’re attempting to drop on, so the knee has extra padding in case you miss the arm, safety first! As imagined, deep twists (like yesterday’s ), forward folds and milder hip openers should be done to warm up properly. #Bestrong
and let’s give it a try! Comment below how it goes and save the pic for next January...
