This refugee run restaurant, voted “The Nicest Place in America” in 2018, is now serving furloughed government workers effected by the US government shutdown. •
The owner of this restaurant, Yassin Terou, has been using his restaurant as a safe haven for people of all different walks of life. •
In 2017, a man attended a local neighborhood event attacking the crowds about immigrants in the United States. Instead of giving back hostility, Terou approached the man, offered to buy him dinner so they could talk, and even offered him a job at his restaurant.
This restaurant and its employees are a perfect example of the positivity, strength, and progress that happens when communities and people come together to help and understand one another. With generous and admirable acts of kindness like this we will continue to set the bar higher for others and ourselves when giving back to our community and our world.
No matter our background, or personal views, we are all humans living on this earth with the goal to be the best we can be. In order to make the world around us better, let’s start with the people right next to us. •
Let’s follow in the footsteps of everyone at Yassin’s Falafel House, and spread the love and kindness we wish to see, until we see it everywhere. •
