Tried my hand at making homemade cheese with the raw milk from the farm. 🧀 😍 I love it! I love making my own food and knowing what’s in it! Ingredients: raw milk (or whole milk), vinegar and salt. That’s it! It’s just simple curd cheese, but I’m going to try making it into mozzarella tonight, we shall see how that goes.
It looked simple on YouTube so it’s gonna be totally easy, right? Right?! 🤪
I’ll keep you posted.
You can make your own cheese too!
Get 4 liters of whole milk (raw is preferred but unless you live on a dairy farm, it’s illegal to obtain in Canada)
Put it in a pot on the stove, turn the heat to medium and bring it to a boil (100 degrees celcius) 👉🏻this part takes forever! You just have to be patient. Stir it constantly so it doesn’t stick to the bottom and burn or form a skin on the top.
When it boils, turn it down to low, pour 1/4 cup of vinegar (white or apple cider) into the milk and watch it curdle. It will automatically separate the curds from the whey. The whey looks like green liquid on the outside. If it isn’t doing this, add more vinegar.
Once it’s chunked up, strain it immediately through some cheese cloth, rinse the cheese curds with cold water to stop it from continuing to cook. Squeeze out the water. Salt to desired flavoring and wrap in cheesecloth, leave it in a cauldron so it drains for a couple hours then hang it in your fridge overnight to keep draining. Ta da! It freezes and thaws well and tastes so yummy! It’s a bit crumbly though, so keep that in mind.
Let me know if you try making it! •
